What is the MeBella Pelvic Floor Chair?

Maloney Elkassem Wellness in St. Albert offers the MeBella Pelvic Floor Chair as part of our pelvic health program. The MeBella chair uses high-intensity focused electromagnetic (HIFEM) technology to stimulate deep contractions of the pelvic floor and surrounding muscles while you remain seated and fully clothed. The chair is Health Canada licensed as a Class II medical device.

The MeBella system delivers focused electromagnetic energy to the pelvic floor region. During a standard session:

You sit on the chair fully clothed

The device delivers thousands of supramaximal contractions over the session (manufacturer specifications list up to approximately 12,000 contractions in a 28-minute session at peak settings of 2.5 Tesla)

You can read, use your phone, or relax during the session

Who May Benefit

Stress urinary incontinence

Urge urinary incontinence and mixed incontinence

Mild-to-moderate pelvic organ prolapse symptoms

Postpartum pelvic floor weakness

Post-prostatectomy incontinence

Pelvic floor weakness with difficulty activating muscles voluntarily

Pelvic floor stimulation is not a one-size solution. Candidacy, dosing, and session planning are determined after a physiotherapy-led pelvic health assessment.

Why Assessment Comes First

At Maloney Elkassem Wellness, the MeBella chair is used inside a clinical pelvic health program — not as a standalone product. Jenna Truelove, our pelvic health physiotherapist, assesses whether chair-based stimulation is appropriate for your presentation, how it fits with other treatment (manual therapy, exercise, behavioural strategies), and when it is not the right tool. For some presentations (such as high-tone pelvic floor pain conditions) electromagnetic chair stimulation may not be appropriate.

MeBella vs Emsella

Emsella is a well-known brand of HIFEM pelvic floor chair. MeBella is a separate, Health Canada-licensed Class II device that uses similar HIFEM technology. We chose MeBella for its clinical specifications, device licensing, and fit within our pelvic health program.

Emsella is a trademark of BTL Industries. MeBella is a separate product and is not affiliated with Emsella or BTL.

Integrated Pelvic Health Care

Chair-based stimulation is one tool. Lasting improvement in pelvic health usually involves a combination of pelvic floor training, breathing and core work, behavioural strategies, and sometimes manual therapy. Our program integrates MeBella with the broader pelvic health program delivered by Jenna Truelove.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the MeBella chair safe?

MeBella is Health Canada licensed as a Class II medical device (License No. 116006). As with any medical device, there are contraindications (for example, pregnancy, certain implanted devices such as pacemakers, metal implants in the treatment area, active cancer in the treatment region). Your physiotherapist will screen for these during assessment.

Does it hurt?

Most people describe the sensation as strong tapping or tightening. Intensity is adjusted to be effective but tolerable.

How many sessions will I need?

This is individualized based on your assessment. Many programs involve a series of sessions over several weeks, with reassessment and progression.

Is MeBella covered by insurance?

Coverage varies by plan. Pelvic health physiotherapy assessments and visits are generally covered under extended health plans; coverage for the chair-based component depends on your specific plan. We can help you check.

Is MeBella the same as Emsella?

No. MeBella and Emsella are separate products from different manufacturers that use the same general HIFEM technology category. MeBella is Health Canada licensed as a Class II medical device.
