Concussion Rehabilitation
Amanda has completed the Complete Concussion Management Inc. (CCMI) concussion certification course. Her concussion assessment looks beyond the diagnosis itself to identify factors that may be contributing to ongoing symptoms, including the vestibular system, neck function, balance, eye-head coordination and exercise tolerance.
Treatment is individualized around the patient's findings, symptoms, activity demands and goals, with progressive return to work, school, exercise or sport as appropriate.
Vestibular Rehabilitation
Amanda has additional training in assessing vertigo, dizziness and balance disorders and is currently the only physiotherapist at our clinic trained to use specialized vestibular goggles during assessment.
The goggles allow Amanda to observe eye movements during specific vestibular and positional tests, which can provide useful information when assessing concerns such as BPPV and other causes of dizziness. The goggles are an assessment tool and do not make a diagnosis on their own.
Experience With Athletes
Having worked with several sports teams, Amanda understands the physical and practical demands involved in returning safely and confidently to training and competition. Her goal is not only to reduce symptoms, but to help patients progressively return to the work, sport and activities that matter to them.
Part of an Integrated Team
Concussion, dizziness and sports injuries can involve more than one system. At Maloney Elkassem Wellness, Amanda can collaborate with our chiropractors, massage therapists, acupuncturists, counsellors and other physiotherapists when a patient's recovery would benefit from additional expertise.
